Thredbo Open For Season

In a week that saw the Snowy Mountains receive over 60cm of snow, Thredbo have opened their season today with skiers and snowboarders relishing the big snowfall.

The mid week snow transformed Thredbo into a winter wonderland with over 25cm of fresh snow in the village. The long High Noon run was in good condition for its opening day. Friday Flat was busy with first timers and in the Merritts area popular.

Thredbo Village instantly had its winter vibe with many people making the opening long weekend pilgrimage to kickstart their 2021 season.

On Friday night the Sundance slope was lit up by digital artist Scott Baker who has teamed up with BE Productions to create a light show for visitors to witness from their lodge or vantage spots. The impressive show will again be shown on Saturday and Sunday night from 6pm to 8.30pm.

Saturday night will see the traditional fireworks, and Sunday guests dine at the long lunch, and the blessing of the snow is at the Thredbo Chapel at 3pm

With 5cm of new snow overnight on the higher elevations, plus more snow  in the forecast from mid week, the Thredbo season is off to a great start.

Here are a selection of skiing and snowboarding from opening day, plus images after the snowfall on Thursday.
