Rumble strips are being installed in a number of key areas across the Monaro to ensure safer journeys for motorists travelling along the Snowy Mountains Highway.
Member for Monaro John Barilaro said work now underway has been brought forward thanks to the NSW Government’s $2.3 billion COVID-19 package announced in March.
“We are rolling out audio tactile line marking on sections of the Snowy Mountains Highway between Bemboka and Kosciuszko National Park, to help save lives on our roads,” Mr Barilaro said.
“This is about improving safety along three sections of road with a poor crash history, ensuring everyone who sets off on a journey gets home to their loved ones safely.
“On top of delivering safer journeys, this project will create up to 10 jobs, helping keep our local economy ticking during these tough times.”
The work will be carried out from Adaminaby to Providence Portal for about three kilometres, Bemboka to Steeple Flat for about two kilometres, and Kiandra to Yarrangobilly for more than one kilometre.
Work began yesterday and will continue today. Work will then resume Monday, 29 March to Wednesday, 31 March between 8am and 3pm, weather permitting.
Changed traffic conditions, including a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h, and a single-lane closure will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists.
Motorists are advised to allow up to five minutes additional travel time and follow the direction of signage and traffic control.
Residents will have access to their properties at all times.
