Council Receives Grant Money For Pothole Repairs

Motorists in the Snowy Monaro area will welcome the news that the NSW State Government has assisted with funds to help repair pothole laden roads across the shire.

The council has received a grant of over 900 thousand dollars to assist in the repair of the roads as part of the NSW Government’s $50 million Fixing Local Roads Pothole Repair Round.

Member for Monaro Nichole Overall said $1.49 million will be allocated to the Monaro area going straight into the bank accounts of Queanbeyan Palerang and Snowy Monaro Regional Council to help them cover the extra costs and workload pressures following this year’s unprecedented rain and storms.
“These grants are a rapid injection of cash to help councils get on with the job of repairing potholes to get us through the wet summer ahead,” Mrs Overall said.
“The $912,398.20 for Snowy Monaro Regional Council and $580,532.43 for Queanbeyan Palerang Regional Council are a great example of the NSW Government continuing to support our councils after the unrelenting rainfall that has taken its toll on the roads.”

“This is on top of the ongoing multi-million dollar investment in a stronger road network through Fixing Local Roads, Fixing Country Roads and Fixing Country Bridges.”
Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Sam Farraway said all 94 regional councils that applied for funding had been approved for grants.
“The NSW National and Liberals Government is backing in our councils with this dedicated pothole repair funding which is the first of its kind in NSW," said Minister Farraway.

With a huge amount of roadwork repairs needed across the region, expect pothole repairs to be an ongoing task for council especially with continued rain forecast for summer. Motorists should take caution and drive to the conditions.
