Trout Festival Celebrates 50 Years

The Snowy Mountains Trout Festival starts this Saturday, November 4. With the recent fishing being some of the best in years, join the festival for a chance to win over $30,000 in prizes.

FISHING has always been a huge attraction in the Snowy Mountains and a favourite recreational activity. Such is its notoriety in the region, Adaminaby has the world’s largest trout in the town centre.

THE official opening of the Adaminaby Lions Club Picnic Park and the world’s largest trout in 1973 was a huge occasion for the town. The event, instigated by the Adaminaby and District Progress Association saw Tom Lewis, NSW minister for lands and tourism officiate the opening.

The inaugural Adaminaby Trout Festival coincided with the big trout opening in 1973 and started what is today the Snowy Mountains Trout Festival.

As word spread of the festival keen anglers continued to flock to the November event. During its peak there were over 900 anglers fishing the tournament.
