The Mt Gladstone hillclimb in Cooma is organised by the Cooma Monaro Historic Automobile Club (CMHAC), sanctioned by Motorsport Australia, and uses the Mt Gladstone Rd which is located about 4 Kms out of Cooma. The road leads to the Mt Gladstone Lookout and Miss Heidi’s Tea House and is closed for each event.
The events provide an outlet for both young and old to develop or hone their skills in a controlled and safe environment. Newcomers are catered for by our ‘Come and Try’ events where anyone who has never participated in a motor sport event can come and have a go, either with or without an instructor, in a non-competitive environment. In association with the hillclimb CMHAC runs a Junior Development program, which involves young adults aged between 14 and 18.
The program encompasses a Motorkhana event which allows participants to learn and experience car control at relatively low speeds, followed by a session at the ‘Come and Try’ hillclimb. CMHAC provide club cars for both events, and adults at the ‘Come and Try’ can also use a club car if they wish.
Participants are required to hold a current Motorsport Australia Level 2 Speed Licence and be a member of a Motorsport Australia affiliated car club. Introductory Licences are available on the day for newcomers.
