A unique 5-day charity cycling challenge will commence in Adaminaby on Tuesday March 25 where 60 riders will circumnavigate the renowned Snowy Mountains cycling terrain.
The Smiling for Smiddy charity ride in association with the Mater Foundation is dedicated to Adam Smiddy, who at the young age of 26 years old passed away from an aggressive melanoma in 2006.
The talented triathlete and respected physiotherapist discovered a small lump in his groin, and a biopsy revealed it was a malignant melanoma. Gradually over the next six months, Adam’s health and fitness started to return.
During a bike ride with his close friend and triathlon coach, Mark ‘Sharky’ Smoothy, Adam confessed to feeling unwell. Just over three weeks later, Adam passed away. He was in hospital for just eight days. Unknown to Adam and everyone else, the cancer had spread to Adam’s vital organs.
When Adam Smiddy passed away his mates pledged a commitment to traveling the long road to fight cancer. Today, the Smiling for Smiddy legacy continues.
Their aim to ride and raise money for a great cause.
This week, two groups of 30 riders, with supported vehicles will be seen on the Snowy Mountains roads from Tuesday to Saturday.
Motorists can expect to see the support cars in their area advising of cyclists ahead on these given days
