Snowy River Bears v Tathra July 8

First Grade

Snowy River Bears 18 v Tathra 30

The Snowy River Bears were in prime position to push for a home win last weekend against the visiting Tathra side before a poor second half let the game slip away entirely. Scoring four tries to the opposition three in the first half, the game was at their fingertips and probably their best half of footy the team has played at home this season.

Josh Hitchens scores one of his two four pointers.

In cold weather with drizzle at times, the cold and wet did not seem to phase the home side, they have played in colder conditions. The first half was a polished performance on many fronts, and the team controlled the game.

What happened after the break even left captain coach Josh Hitchens stumped for words at the end of the game. The skipper scored two tries himself and was strong but he was dumbfounded at the result.

Will Moore scored the try of the day with an emphatic mid-air manoeuvre from a metre out to score in the corner. Any NRL player would have been proud of the finish. He would score again before halftime but then the points dried up. Mia Tema would convert only 1 of 4 attempts.

The second half started well, but soon turned into a nightmare with very poor ball handling allowing the Tathra boys easy field position which in the end was too much to handle.

The visitors scored twice in the second half with one try converted to easily win 30-12.

Reserve Grade

Snowy River Bears 12 v Tathra 52

The Bears Reserve Grade came up against strong opposition with the Tathra side showing no mercy, running away easily with the game scoring ten tries in their 52 point total to the lacklustre Bears 12 points from 2 converted tries.

It seemed no matter what the home side threw at the coastal visitors, it was not enough. More disappointing was the manner in which some tries were scored, near repeat moves from the previous try with the Tathra right wing scoring easily with hardly a finger laid on his jersey.

Liam Pepper scored one try and was later replaced with a should injury. Connor McDonald scored their other 4 pointer and Tui Samoa converting twice.

Paulo Salesa proved hard to handle when on the attack.
