THE Jindabyne Bushpigs rugby union team were clearly outplayed by the strong Bugendore side with the home team on the wrong side of the 24-10 score line in first grade on May 7 at John Connors Oval
The Bugendore boys pushed over in the corner to score the first try and looked to have their process well organised compared to Jindabyne side. When Liam Pepper crossed for a try after a period of messy play you might have though the Bushpigs were in for a contestable afternoon.
But from their on it was all Bugendore with the home side guilty of coughing up cheap possession. Their inability to throw the ball straight from the lineout was a contributing factor, with numerous lineouts gifting possession away. Passes were too easily going to ground resulting in added pressure in defence and allowing Bugendore easy metres.
When asked about the game and whether the wind had anything do with the poor lineouts, Bushpigs coach Mick Needham agreed the wind was a small factor but said both teams had the same conditions. Commenting on the possession situation he knew they were not at their best.
“When we had the ball we sort of wasted it with passing, players need to get a bit tighter and closer to each other,” said Needham
The Bushpigs play at home again on Saturday 14 May and the coach was still confident of a positive season ahead.
“Shaping up well we’ve got a few more boys coming back shortly and we will pick up from here and get better.”
Home games are from 10.50am with the first grade side playing at 2.30pm
