Thredbo MTB Interschools record numbers

Over 1000 students from over 220 schools will flock to Thredbo this week for the 23rd Australian Mountain Bike Interschools Championships.

Attracting the biggest number of competitors yet, the 23rd Australian Mountain Biking (MTB) Interschools is a five-day mountain bike event held in Thredbo bringing together schools from all over Australia.

Over 1000 school-aged students from as far as Tweed Heads and down to Victoria will compete in five disciplines from 23 – 27 March including: Maxxis All-Mountain Assault, Fox Flow Motion Cup, Oakley Cannonball Downhill, Rockshox Pump Track Challenge and Osprey Cross Country. The championships include four age divisions with competitors from eight years of age through to nineteen years of age.

The event aims to promote participation and evoke interest in competitive mountain biking in the younger generation.



“Thredbo Resort is excited to be bringing back the Australian Mountain Bike Interschools Championships for its 23rd instalment. Attracting over 1,000 competitors from over 220 schools from around the country, this year's event will be, by far the biggest yet," said Thredbo Resort General Manager Stuart Diver.

“As well as delivering significant economic benefits to the local visitor economy, events of this scale assist with further cementing Thredbo and the Snowy Mountains’ reputation as Australia's premier mountain biking destination,” continued Mr Diver.

The events consist of:

Thursday - Maxxis All-Mountain Assault, a 4km undulating time trial descent

Friday – Fox Flow Motion Cup – 465m vertical descent over 4.5km’s

Saturday – Double header Rockshox Pump Track Challenge and the iconic Oakley Cannonball Downhill.

Sunday – Osprey Cross Country 2.5km loop around Friday Flat.
