The 2020 snow season is highly unlikely to start in June unless the current government restrictions are lifted prior to their current 90 day direction.
The current order states gatherings of more than two people is not permitted and accommodation bookings are not being accepted prior to June 29 for any non-essential travel. This will virtually guarantee the snow season have a delayed start.
Today some resorts have updated their websites to reflect the new order.
Thredbo have updated their website to state.
“In compliance with the Public Health (COVID-19 Restrictions on Gathering and Movement) Order dated 30 March 2020, unless there is a reasonable excuse for travel to Thredbo we are legally unable to accept your reservation request at the Thredbo Alpine Hotel or a Thredbo Resort Centre property up to and including 29 June 2020 unless the Order is repealed at an earlier date.”
“All guests who have booked accommodation at the Thredbo Alpine Hotel or a Thredbo Resort Centre property for dates prior to 29 June 2020 will be contacted and arrangements made for a credit or a refund.”
Lake Crackenback Resort also updated their website.
“Under NSW Government direction, Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa is regretfully unable to accept any holiday bookings due to current enforced travel restrictions.”
“Lake Crackenback Reception will still be operational between 9am – 4pm for shop items including a range of meal options to take home. We are hopeful that we will be back to normal operations in the coming months.”
Perisher had not updated their website statement today.
July School Holiday Interschools Cancelled
The July school holiday NSW Interschools races have been cancelled today with a statement released from Snow Australia saying the safety, health and well-being of its competitors, volunteers, parents and school communities are their prime focus.
“We recognise the pressures that schools are currently experiencing and supporting Principals, School Snowsports Coordinators, Staff and Students is our highest priority.”
“Following advice to Schools over the past 7-day period that cancels all Term 1 & 2 School Sporting Events from now through to July, all NSW Regional & QLD Interschools Events planned for the July School Holiday period (Saturday 4th July to Sunday 19th July 2020) in NSW Resorts, are now cancelled.”
“This includes the Northern NSW and QLD event at Thredbo, and the Sydney event at Perisher.”
“Snow Australia Interschool and Perisher continue to plan for the late July 2020 Southern NSW and ACT Interschools Championships. A formal announcement of either the hosting or the cancellation of this late July event will occur during May, if not before.”
Planning also continues for the NSW State Championships in later August at Thredbo and the Australian Interschools Championships in September at Perisher.
