The Natural Beauty of Australia’s Alpine will unfold starting November 16 when the official hiking season opens at Thredbo.
Hiking in Australia’s alpine region offers so much from rugged peaks, glacial lakes, unique flora and fauna and Australia’s highest mountain of Mt Kosciuszko.
This summer you can soak up the natural beauty of Australia’s alpine with Thredbo’s breathtaking summer hikes. This spectacular destination has an extensive trail network showcasing the best of the iconic high country with options suitable for all ages and abilities.
Take on one of the country’s best bucket list adventures and stand on top of Australia on the iconic 13 km family friendly Kosciuszko summit hike.
Starting with a scenic chairlift ride from Thredbo Village, you then follow a dedicated walking path and absorb the scenery on the 6.5kmh walk each way. As you round the bend and see Australia’s highest point at 2228m, the sense of reaching the top is exhilarating.
For a more challenging hike, the 19km Alpine Lakes hike offers unbounded scenic locations that will be etched in your memory for life as you meander past Blue Lake, Club Lake and Albina Lake. Another option is to take in the stunning views from Australia’s second highest peak on the 21km Mt Townsend hike.
Hikers in early summer will still encounter snow patches and for all alpine hikes, be sure to pack extra layers, food and plenty of water as the weather can change quickly. The weather in the valley is vastly different to the top of the mountain.
