Sad news today for the Snowy Mountains region as one of their favourite entertainers, Jae Haydon has passed away in a tragic surfing accident in Indonesia.
It is believed 35 year old Haydon was surfing at Uluwatu beach at 7.30am on Monday in big surf when a large wave washed him off his board. It was reported that other surfers tried to pull him onto their boards in the rough conditions but were unable to before another wave hit the surfer again.
The surfboard was broken and washed up on the beach where people were trying to identify whose board it was.
The man’s family confirmed to the ABC this morning the 35-year-old’s body was found 12 hours after a broken board washed up last night near Padang Padang Beach, near Kuta, in the tourist island’s south.
His sister, Heidi Haydon, said in a text: “My mum and I are feeling the love from all and know that you would understand we would appreciate privacy at this time.”
Haydon has been one of the favourite musicians in the alpine region, regularly booked each week throughout the winter season. He would spend the snow season entertaining at many of the local bars in Jindabyne, Thredbo and Perisher.
Haydon was also a very keen snowboarder and will be sorely missed this winter.
As his friends here in the mountains found out about the sad news there has been a wealth of glowing memories of their friend posted to social media.
Our condolences to all his family and friends.
