BARILARO PRESELECTED AS NATIONALS CANDIDATE FOR 2019

The Member for Monaro John Barilaro has been formally endorsed as the Nationals candidate for Monaro for the 2019 State Election.

The endorsement was approved at a Nationals Monaro Electorate Council meeting in Queanbeyan yesterday.

“I am grateful for the support the community has shown me over the last seven years and it is an honour to have been preselected as the Nationals candidate for the 2019 election,” Mr Barilaro said

“In my time as your local member, plenty has happened and been delivered, but there is still a lot to do.

“This role keeps me from my family, but it affords me the tremendous privilege to serve my constituents to the best of my ability and get the results that they need.”

Mr Barilaro said he was proud of what the NSW Liberal & Nationals Government has achieved to date for the Monaro region.

“The Monaro electorate has seen record funding for all schools, the resolution of the five-decade long asbestos problem through the introduction of a buyback scheme, major upgrades at Cooma and Queanbeyan hospitals, and over $220 million in roads funding and upgrades,” Mr Barilaro said.

“But I’d like to think me and the Monaro have a way to go yet.”

Projects underway across the Monaro include:

– Building an ambulance station in Bungendore

– Brand new lights for the Braidwood recreation ground

– A new police station in Queanbeyan

– New amenities buildings at High Street and Mick Sherd Ovals

– A school for special needs in Queanbeyan

– $86 million extension of Ellerton Drive

– The creation of a master plan to finalise Jindabyne’s network of shared trails

– Upgrades to the Bombala Platypus Reserve and the Bombala Racecourse

– $58 million in upgrades across Monaro High School, Jindabyne Central School, Queanbeyan High School, Karabar High School, Braidwood Central School and Queanbeyan East Public School

“I have a clear vision for the Monaro, and want to be sure that we deliver on all of the projects that have been committed to,” Mr Barilaro said.

“With the proceeds of the sale of Snowy Hydro bringing $4.2 billion to regional NSW, I know we have an opportunity for once in a lifetime infrastructure, and I want to see this done properly.

“I will continue to engage and work with the community and I will always work to deliver for the people of the Monaro.

“In March 2019, I will look to the community to judge me on my track record of delivery over the past seven years, and they will know that in me, they have someone who is a fighter and believes in the Monaro.

“The Monaro region holds a special place in my heart. I have grown up, lived, run a business and raised my family here. I am proud to represent this region and I’m passionate about doing what’s best for our communities and for the Monaro.”
